I Voted!

October 22, 2008

On Sunday afternoon, I sat down with a cup of hot tea and opened my mail-in ballott.  What a surprise to find 13 candidates for President of the United States!  For a tough job like that, I’m surprised that there are two candidates…never mind 13!  Anyway, I looked up information on TheBell.org and got some help with the amendments on the ballott.  I filled every little oval carefully full of dark blue ink.  Since I am a first time mail-in voted in Colorado, I copied my driver’s license and put that piece of paper inside the envelope, not inside the sleeve with my ballott.  I drove to the Jefferson County Courthouse (lovingly called the Taj Mahal by locals) and deposited my envelope in the large white box marked “Ballott Drop Off.”  Now that I’ve voted, I’m ready for all those silly ads to be off the television!

Never Mind Laryngitis

October 13, 2008

Last Tuesday when John came home from his doctor’s appointment, I said, “Look at the bed.”  “Ok,” he replied, “I see it.”  “Look,” I said excitedly, “I’m not in it!”  Charlotte, our cute red haired 3 yr old granddaughter, and her mom had spent a week with us.  Charlotte has just started going to pre school five mornings a week.  And she brings home art work….and germs.  She had a runny nose the week they were here and the day they departed, I came down with laryngitis and went to bed.  I was so sick that there was no consciousness that I had missed nearly a week of the most beautiful fall weather Colorado has to offer.  We love having Charlotte and her mom and I wouldn’t trade the time we spent….so I hacked and coughed and sneezed….and slept….and got better.

And my friend Nadine and I won third prize in the very first Knock Your Boots Off chili cook off sponsored by the Golden Chamber of Commerce!  While I’m sure it didn’t help my laryngitis a bit, we spent all day October 3 outside, cooking vegetarian chili under an EZup and chatting with the Mayor of Golden and various wonderful family and friends who stopped by.  We cooked Butch’s Chili which has been my favorite recipe for 25 years.  When people would stop for a taste (one man came by six times!), they would ask, “Who is Butch?”  Finally, Nadine who has curly hair and beautiful eyes, said, “I am.  I’m Butch.”  That reply brought a smile from every face!  What a fun day!
