Yesterday, I got a haircut. I said to Julie, “Take off about an inch.” I think Julie heard, “Leave about an inch.” So that’s what she did. When we get to Costa Rica tomorrow, I need to buy a hat with a flower on it and a big pair of earrings. Otherwise, everyone will think that John is on vacation with a tall boy.

March 18, 2008Anniversary
March 17, 2008On March 13, we celebrated 15 years of marriage and we were together three years prior to the wedding. That evening, we met our friends Robin & Ken at the Table Mountain Inn in Golden. As they were toasting our anniversary, Ken jokingly asked John “How many happy years?” “Well,” John replied, “we’ve been married 15 years so 18 happy years!”
It was the best present I could get.
Everyone?
March 15, 2008We were in Round Rock TX visiting our son Chris/wife Kristina, daughter Alex (3 1/2 years old) and brand new twins, Christian and Caroline. We asked Alex if she knew her entire name and she replied, “Alexandra Katherine Pearson.”
“Do you know Daddy’s name?” “Chris Pearson” “How ’bout Mommy’s name?” “Kristina Pearson.” “Do you know Grandpa’s name?” “John Pearson.” “Yes, and Grammy’s name is Andi Pearson.”
Alex paused a split second and put her hands on her hips and asked, “Is EVERYONE named Pearson?”
Priceless

March 15, 2008John tapes Oprah for me every day so I can decide if I want to watch it or not….and I fast forward through commericals. Yesterday, she featured Freegans – people who “rescue” items that have been thrown away. A reporter followed a group in NYC as they explored trash cans (always on the curb in Manhattan) and found tons of food, fresh, edible food. Jars of pickles, packets of salad greens, dozens of eggs, fruit that looked perfect….it was amazing. Then a newlywed couple from Tennessee was on and they have made it a point not to buy new things for their apartment. They have desks, chairs, lamps…all kinds of things they have found and re-purposed.
I am deeply grateful to these people for their mindset. I do my very best not to buy new things which come with packaging which equals landfill. Recently, we bought new cookware. I offered to buy the display and the vendor said, “Yes, and when you come to pick it up, bring your own box.” Yay! I shop craigslist because there is no wrapping/trash involved. Once a week, I stop by the Golden Goodwill where I find Crate & Barrel dishes, Eddie Bauer shirts and Coldwater Creek jackets. And of course, Scrappy Bags is based on the idea of re-use, re-cycle, re-create.
There are things I buy new and I look for good quality so I don’t buy “cheap” items. But keeping our environment as clean as possible while making the absolute best use of our resources is a focus for me.
